Driibe CityC Expandable Backpack (13 to 17L) Review - A Small Expandable Laptop bag for Work
I really like that it can hold a smallish/medium water bottle. Do you think the material would hold up alright on day hikes in woodsy areas where it might catch the occasional branch/scrape against a rock, or would a nylon sling be more suited to that? Been using my old North Face Borealis as basically my only bag for forever now, but I’ve recently been thinking about grabbing a sling for when I don’t really need to be carrying too much stuff.
Yea it’s awesome! I can’t tell if the outside will hold up vto scuffs, but a most, it would be cosmetic scratches, so if that doesn’t bother you then it’ll work great. Functionally, this sling will hold up great to the outdoors, especially with the water resistance
Great, detailed review!
Thanks!
Nice catch with the double frame sheets, I would never have known.
Thanks! Maybe mine was like. Defect or something, it’s just really bizarre
I wasn’t even looking for a bag like this, but you sold me. I already love all GORUCK, but don’t have the kit bag. Great review.
eyyy, great to hear! Yea, I just randomly stumbled upon it because its' setup weird on their website by being listed under "Accessories ". Thanks for the support! These type of comments allow to me to continue to make great videos.
Is this the version for a 14" laptop? there seems to be a 14 and a 16 available
Yep this is 14”
Unbelievably few people give that kind of look at the laptop compartments. I have a 17" laptop, and nobody will state that their bag fits it even if it will because some 17" laptops can often be much larger than other 17" laptops. It has been a nightmare trying to find reliable dimensions of laptop compartments on any bag, so THANK YOU for comparing the two with an example. I think with a laptop being such a large investment for the average person, more reviewers should take the dimensions of the laptop compartment into consideration.
Totally agreed!! Glad I could help
I don’t know if I missed it in the video despite watching it over a few times, but could you wear the 2L like a fanny pack rather than slung even with a full load? Looking to see if this would be a good EDC for my Fujifilm x-T5 and sigma 10-18
Hi, yes you can, that’s how I use it too. Never as a sling
@@EDG Sweeeeeet. I think you just sold me on it. Thanks a bunch!
@@nzcastillo dope! Thanks for asking the question. I’m glad I could help.
Despite owning two bellroy via work bags, between the two, i would go for aer without hesitation. The narrow, slippery shoulder strap has been a pain in the arse for me especially when i wear my raincoat all the time. Great review though!
Totally, understand that. This slippery shoulder strap was sort of annoying even on a normal dress shirt. If I had to wear it on a raincoat, I’d lose my mind
Is the material on the bag shiny? I hate getting a bag and it has a shiny material. I have Bellroy venture bag does it look similar?
I’d say it’s about the same as the bellroy, I also have the venture. It’s not shiny like Patagonia hip back.
considering switching to this as my one bag carry over my 35L Cotopaxi
oo, both great picks. What makes you think of switching?
@@EDG i love the switch to duffle that the patagonia MLC has! its design seems more thoughtful and module, plus i love the laptop case. although i do love the Cotopaxi, i dont love the weight but it feels sturdy to send as a checked bag when i can.
@@carmenflo4778 yea for sure. I really liked this MLC
@@carmenflo4778 yep ! I love the MLC
Wonder if the top compartment will fit a 7 liter sling bag? It looks big.
not sure, sorry
just in case anyone is wondering, the BAG is waterproof, the ZIPPER MATERIAL is not!!! B&H support confirmed this for me. To remedy this, I plan to keep (two rubber bands) and (a ziplock bag with the bottom cut off) with me at all times, inside this bag. If ever it downpours, I will slide the ziplock bag through the loops and over the bag itself, and affix rubber bands to both ends of the loops, creating a fully waterproof "shell" for the bag. HOWEVER, a problem with THIS is that the ziplock bag shell may create condensation within the lens and camera inside of the bag. Can anyone confirm??
thanks! dang thats one way to make something waterproof.
I picked mine up on sale for $58. Very well built and unbeatable value. I especially love the dual water bottle holders, one for my bottle, the other for my umbrella. I use it as my EDC to go to coworking spaces with my laptop with accessories and on the way back home, pack a basket full of groceries or shopping in it. If you are looking for a bag that can hold a large size laptop with the empty space of a smallish duffle bag and your budget is $100 or less, this is it.
hell of a deal, great job!
Could the Atom fit my Microsoft Surface 8 (11.3 in x 8.2 in x 0.37 in)
yep!
Swivel is much better in terms of wearability. Never have to worry about strap being twisted or inverted. Plus you can buy a better strap with metal swivel hooks and they’ll be stronger.
I agree, I love the swap ability of swivel straps, especially if they're removable like on some tomtoc products. But they are bulky and heavy.
@@EDG well your video convinced me to pick up one of these - should be in later this week. Can’t wait to try it!
@@californiacastle thats great to hear! glad I could help.
I am confusing, does the balck looks better than this color😂
I like this color
Its not on sale any more or am I wrong? :/
no but it goes on sale like every holiday it seems
Laptop sizes are measured corner to corner 😉
You are correct, again
Looks like the Bellroy Via?
You are correct
Great review video! Clear and to the point. This definitely helped me pick between the two bags. Thanks!
thanks for commenting and supporting! This really helps to make more videos for yall. Which one did you end up picking?
as soon as opened it... "sigh, ruined". Cant wait for this oragne crap to leave.
yeah......... its reallly orange.
❤❤ I can provide you
Huckberry had these on 50% sale for a few days awhile ago, I was tempted, cause I like the idea and I prefer lighter bags. But I am already pretty set on travel bags cause I use the 29L Recycled Firefighter 24+ for light (2.4lbs) one bag travel and the bigger Aer Capsule Max for bigger loads. In reality though I am old so if I fly and never need to hike or go down a lot of stairs or cobblestone/dirt roads with all my stuff, I user a roller carry on and personal item lol. If was just starting and didn't already own and use a bunch of packing cubes I'd happily try something like this as my travel bag.
they had this for 50% off !? What theeeee. Yea I'm with you. Im gravitating towards light for a personal carry, and just going roller luggage more and more on longer trips. That Aer Capsule max is a big boiiii.
@@EDG oh sorry it wasn't huckberry, it was Bespoke post. Yeah you gotta keep a lookout on some of these non-manufacturer sites, sometimes they drop crazy deals. Huckberry just had Mystery Ranch 3-way briefcase 27s for $139 (down from $229) Right at this moment Recycled Firefighter has 50% off bags with the code "FIFTYBAG". they only do a code like that 3-4 times a year (its not displayed but it works if you type it in).
@@EDG Ahh my bad it was actually Bespoke Post that had that sale. You have to watch some of these non-manufacturer sites, sometimes they drop big sales.
What area isn't either rainy, humid or dry?. Even here in Florida we get all 3 sometimes daily.
Southern California
Great upload. Seems like a great one bag option. I have the stubble and co roll top 20ltrs and I love it. I was thinking to buy this to upgrade my Osprey farpoint 40 but I decided to stick with Osprey for the time being.
Thanks! Oooo what year did you get the far point? Is it the most current version? I just reviewed the farpoint 40 and scheduled the video release. What made you stick with the farpoint?
@@EDG I had the old version but I have sold it due to the laptop compartment was at the front of the bag. I’ve got the new version last year and the reason I kept the farpoint is the simplicity. No mesh pockets just a one single compartment. Gives me the freedom to pack the way I want to pack. Haven’t had the adventure bag so I can’t compare the two but the Osprey is extremely comfortable to carry when it’s fully packed.
@@danielpeti3885 thanks the reply! Yea, great choice . The farpoint is amazing. I also tried the newest version
@@EDG just stumbled upon your review of this. I need to order something this week and right now it's between this and fairpint. Any insight on which to get would be appreciated. thanks!
@@MrVeslo hi, what’s your budget and what are a few things you like about bags/priotize? And what do you not like about a travel bag.
Did the strap have the clip on it already or did you have to attach it? I bought this bag and mine had no clip on the shoulder strap.
That’s weird. Yea mine already had the clip on it
It's too deep for international carry - on. 10" deep? why?
Not sure why
Got the 27 oz Klean Kanteen for flights since it fights in the back seat pocket and my general carrying bottle. I also have the 40oz one for when I travel. The lighter and smaller size make it my go to.
Nice!!
Am I losing my mind? I can swear this video was out already released. Regardless, I appreciate the content you upload. I like your style.
Had to reupload because I corrected some information from the original. Thanks for the love! I got a bunch of videos lined up for release. stay tuned.
Buy a shoe horn, use shoe trees, and use a simple leather conditioner.
I should!…. But definitely won’t end up doing so
I don’t like this tendency of Patagonia removing every single organiser pockets from their bags. They even silently removed one from the black hole 1L hip bags!
yea, the shift away from organization is baffling. It's the one job a backpack has. I sold my 1L black hole because of that too. I found a way better sling.
If they just kept the two organiser pockets (one with a mesh, one with a zipper) from last year models, it would have been the perfect bag. Those two pockets really don’t take up any space and make it so convenient to store small items like keys, AirPods, passports, and so on. I also use separate pouches, but they have a tendency to awkwardly shift to the bottom of the bag when you need it most. On the other hand, I like that they reduced the size to 26 and also made it into more of a rectangular shape. The older 28 bag had a tendency to bulge out and be difficult to put under the seat of budget airlines. The new bags also feel sturdier - it seems that they used slightly thicker or stiffer materials. But it also makes the bags feel surprisingly heavy when empty.
agreed to everything you said. Thanks for the comment! I love a great bag analysis.
I have the entire stargazer collection
niiice! thats a great collection.
Wonder what you can use the daisy chain for. Sorry, new at this
A lot of ppl use caribiners to hook random stuff like water bottles or collapsible jackets. Stuff like thay
Are these more comfortable than Stan smiths in your opinion?
Oo great question. I love Stan smiths, so I’d give the edge to them. But Thursday boots once they break in a bit are still nice
@@EDG lovely, thanks for the super quick reply!
Great video. I actually just purchased both during the Memorial Day sale for about $95 total.
Damn that’s a great deal
Anyone got a link to buy the Ultra Gaff deck? I can't find it.
I actually may sell mine. It’s the one in the video so it’s open, if you’re interested
@@EDG Sure! If the price is right. How should we do this?
That color is called Tarmac grey but isn’t it navy blue?
Amazing, wish they had it in a lighter colour then I’d get it,
agreed, it could use another color option
Seine in French is pronounced closer to “Senn” No big deal when we translate into English 😊
Yeppp, thanks!
Why the Tomtoc logo is so dark on your backpack? Have you paint it?
I removed the logo
@@EDG how?
@@user-ii7pr1tp4s they came off pretty easy with a pair of pliers

Whats a pass through
It’s a little flap of fabric on the back of bags that allows you to slide it on a suitcase handle
Some cedar shoe trees and leather polish can keep them looking way better for far longer time than just 3 years.
Cool! To clarify, I wasn’t saying they only last 3 years. But rather, the 3 year old pair I have is in great shape with plenty of years left in them
Hi, will this work as carry-on luggage for the flight? Usually there is a place on the airport to fit a luggage to check if it fits the required size. Do you have experience flying with this backpack?
Yes! It’ll fit as a carry on
@@EDG thanks 🙏🏻
nice review, would have like to see the bag on your back though
Thanks! I showed it on my back in the beginning of the video
This is the best review I've seen of this bag! Question, did you remove the lettering from the logo? Any advice on how to do that?
Thanks for the compliment! I did remove the logo. I just used pliers cuz they’re kind of just glued on. Came off easy, with a little residue left behind.
@@EDG Nice! Thanks for the help!
is this bag an overkill for everyday carry? I like all the features and I want to invest in a bag that's both my EDC and my Personal item but I do not know if it'd be too heavy and too travel oriented for a normal day at the office + carrying around groceries
Hmm, it’s reallly close. It compresses pretty flat which is good, but it is largely square, which may be a bit large on your back. But at 30L, i guess it could be used everyday. What your looking for is probably something around 20L
Thank you for this. I am looking to buy my 1st pair and wasn't sure on fit. The olive green accent on the back of Legacy can almost look gray in certain angles. I don't mind that at all. Now to decide. 🙏😊
yea of course! I think they made even another model of low top since I made this video.
I will try and look. I appreciate this 😊
Great comparison video! Exactly what I was looking for 👍
